Suppers, Stays & Summer Apples

Its the peak of summer and a time of abundance at last. Gather with us in the garden  this weekend for a Saturday Supper  and enjoy the best of the bounty. August 10 is your chance to join us last minute for a two night stay and a two for one supper offer. We have  one cottage available and plenty of room at the table. Mark Mendenhall of Long Meadow Ranch (their vineyards are just across the road from us) will be here to fill your glass with a variety of flavors. Tomatoes and melons from Rita's garden, fish from the nearby sea and early apples from  Tim's orchard are just  some of the farm bounty we will be serving.

The focus is on Greenwood Ridge road vintners for the next two suppers. Baxter will join us in September with one cottage still available, Wentworth Vineyards will round out the season in October, although our beds are full up. At this point we can still add a few more hungry diners to the table.

We are starting to bring in SUMMER APPLES! They are so welcome, but always fleeting as they are not the best keepers.

Our first major crop is Gravenstein, and growing up in our family, the only apple considered to be worthy of a pie or sauce. That was until we moved to The Apple Farm and branched out a bit. They will be followed by Pink Pearl, and Bramley's Seedling which get top marks from us now, for their culinary qualities.

Connell Red is one of the first good apples for eating out of hand and has many converts. The nutty Kerry Irish Pippin is another stellar apple. Bartlett Pears are just around the corner and can't be beat for lush and juicy, aromatic flesh.

Our website has the whole list of what we grow in approximate order of maturity. Check it out so you don't miss your favorites.

If you would like to grab one last summer weekend before it gets away we have openings on the weekend of August 16th.

After that there are openings here and there on weekends, throughout the fall harvest season. Midweek it is much easier to find an open date and you will find us hard at work bringing in the crop, making cider and packing up for the market.

Stargazing, forest bathing, and kayaking are some of many activities you can do in Mendocino. And of course experiencing all the great food that is served up in our little valley. We have a great resource to explore.
